XIEG signs MOU with the National Academy of Sciences of Tajikistan and the Committee of Emergency Situations and Civil Defense under the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan

On May 25, the Xinjiang Institute of Ecology and Geography, Chinese Academy of Sciences (XIEG) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the National Academy of Sciences of Tajikistan and the Committee of Emergency Situations and Civil Defense under the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan.
Academician Kobiljon Khushvakhtzoda, President of the National Academy of Sciences of Tajikistan, Prof. ZHANG Yuanming, Director of XIEG, and General Rajabali Rahmonali, Chairman of the Committee of Emergency Situations and Civil Defense under the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan, attended the signing ceremony.
Since XIEG jointly established the Research Center for Ecology and Environmentof Central Asia with the National Academy of Sciences of Tajikistan in2014, scientists from both sides have carried out extensive cooperation and made remarkable achievements in deformation monitoring of Lake Sarez,climate change impacts on glaciers and water resources, biodiversity conservation on the Pamir Plateau, and highway snow disaster monitoring and early warning, winning high recognition from the Government of Tajikistan.
Within the framework of the MOU, the parties will expand cooperation in key scientific and technical fields, including natural hazards (such as mudflows, avalanches and floods), glaciers and hydrological processes, environmental impacts of climate change, and the development and implementation of modern monitoring and early warning systems. The parties will also jointly focus on talent training and capacity building for relevant professionals.
The signing lays a solid foundation for strengthening scientific ties and joint research between China and Tajikistan, advancing technological capabilities in the field of natural disaster prevention and management.
The parties pledged to faithfully implement the MOU provisions, continuously expand mutually beneficial cooperation and deliver more tangible outcomes in scientific research and ecological security.
