2026-06-16
On June 2, the Xinjiang Institute of Ecology and Geography, Chinese Academy of Sciences (XIEG), successfully held the 58th Salon for Scientific Exchange (SSE). This event invited Prof. Abdullaev Ikram Iskandarovich, a visiting scientist at XIEG, as the keynote speaker and attracted more than 30 researchers, postdoctoral fellows and graduate students from the institute.
Prof. Abdullaev Ikram Iskandarovich serves as Chairman of the Khorezm Mamun Academy, a branch of the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Uzbekistan. He previously served as Vice Rector for Research and Acting Rector of Urgench State University. With 35 years of research and teaching experience, his research focuses on biological pest control, microbial resource identification, and crop breeding.
The salon focused on Anacanthoterme stermites, a pest prevalent in Central Asia, along with its biological characteristics and integrated management strategies. Prof. Ikram systematically elaborated on the ecological habits, damage patterns, and main stream prevention and control technologies for Anacanthotermes. Drawing on the climatic conditions of arid zones in Central Asia, he proposed targeted integrated pest management recommendations suitable for Xinjiang and its surrounding areas.
During the Q&A session, participants conducted in-depth discussions with Prof. Ikram on termite monitoring technologies, the development of eco-friendly preventionmaterials, and their large-scalepromotion and application.
The salon effectively improved participants’ understanding of termite prevention and pest management. It also further promoted academic and technological cooperation between XIEG and Central Asian institutions in the fields of biosafety and agricultural ecology.
