2026-10-13
On October 7, Stanford University and Elsevier jointly released the 2026 World's Top 2% Scientists list, which is divided into two main parts: the "Career-long Impact" list and the "Single-year Impact" list. The "Career-long Impact" rankings measure a scientist's comprehensive performance over the course of their career, while the "Single-year Impact" rankings focus on academic impact in the previous year.
Four scholars from Xinjiang Institute of Ecology and Geography, Chinese Academy of Sciences (XIEG) — XIAO Wenjiao, CHEN Yaning, ZHANG Yuanming, and Tanveer Mohsin A. — were selected for the "Career-long Impact" list, and 11 scholars — XIAO Wenjiao, CHEN Yaning, Tanveer Mohsin A., Tariq Akash, Islam Waqar, DUAN Weili, Ullah Abid, ZHANG Yuanming, Muhammad Murad M., Ahmed Zeeshan, and LI Nuo — were selected for the "Single-year Impact" list.
The World's Top 2% Scientists list data is based on data from the Scopus database and covers 20 disciplinary fields and 174 sub-disciplinary fields. It is compiled using six key indicators: the number of citations, h-index, the co-author-adjusted hm-index, citations of single-author papers, citations of single-author or first-author papers, and citations of single-author, first-author, or last (corresponding) author papers.
