2026-11-02
On October 20, a delegation led by WANG Chunfeng, Executive Director of the Asia-Pacific Network for Sustainable Forest Management and Rehabilitation (APFNet), visited the Xinjiang Institute of Ecology and Geography, Chinese Academy of Sciences (XIEG). The two sides held a symposium and had in-depth discussions on joint forestry and ecological restoration in the Greater Central Asia region.
DUAN Weili, Deputy Director of XIEG, briefly introduced the institute's scientific cooperation and platform development in arid regions. QIAO Jianfang, Head of the Department of International Cooperation at XIEG, presented an overview of XIEG's cooperation with Central Asian countries, including achievements, major platforms, capacity building, and future plans.
WANG noted that XIEG has achieved remarkable results in international scientific cooperation in Central Asia and Africa. He expressed hope that XIEG would provide technical support for APFNet's forestry projects in the Greater Central Asia region.
The two sides reached several intentions on cooperation. With support from the platforms of the Dialogue Mechanism among Leaders of China-Central Asia National Research Institutions and the Global Network for Sustainable Forest Management, they will jointly organize international conferences and implement regional science and technology demonstration projects in Central Asia.
APFNet is an international organization dedicated to advancing sustainable forest management and rehabilitation in the Asia-Pacific region. It was initiated by the Chinese government in 2007 at the APEC Leaders' Meeting and is headquartered in Beijing.
