The journal covers such topics as the dynamics of natural resources (including water, soil and land, organism and climate), the security and sustainable development of natural resources, and the environment and the ecology in arid and semi-arid lands, especially in Central Asia. Coverage extends to interactions among the atmosphere, hydrosphere, biosphere and lithosphere, and relationships between these natural processes and human activities. Also discussed are patterns of geography, ecology and environment; ecological improvement and environmental protection; and regional responses and feedback mechanisms. The journal presents reviews, brief communications, trends and book reviews.
? Presents original, innovative research from arid and semiarid regions, addressing geography, geology, pedology, hydrology, biology, ecology and meteorology
? Explores the past, present and future of the natural and human landscapes in arid and semi-arid lands, especially those in Central Asia
? Serves as a forum for discussion among researchers from different disciplines and regions
The following types of manuscripts are considered for peer-reviewed publication in JAL.
Research Articles: Before writing a manuscript, author(s) should refer to the latest research results from the world to ensure manuscripts reach an international and advanced level. All articles must report original, innovative and complete results. Generally, research articles (including figures and tables) should not exceed 18 printed pages with an abstract of 300 to 500 words.
Review Articles: Summarize progress in core scientific disciplines, detail the research status, and include suggestions for future studies. The author(s) must be familiar with the topic and have several years of relevant research experience. Review articles should not exceed 20 pages.
Reports: Report novel and innovative findings in natural sciences. Manuscripts of this type should be short (not exceed 10 pages) with a brief abstract.
News items: Report important scientific news, information, and academic affairs, including the introduction and commentary of recent outstanding monographs, as well as significant international conferences held in China.
The JAL Editorial Board is composed of more than sixty world-renowned experts and scholars, of which 48% are foreign scientists. Since JAL was founded in 2009, scientists and researchers have contributed work from arid and semiarid areas in the world. Articles submitted to JAL must be peer-reviewed based strictly on speciality and language. Language revisions are administered by professional English editors.
JAL's audience includes technical and scientific researchers and scholars specific to arid and semiarid regions, as well as university professors and students studying geography, geology, pedology, hydrology, biology, ecology and meteorology.
Scientists and researchers are welcomed to submit original manuscripts with high theoretical value, new research methods and global application to JAL.

It publishes theoretical and experimental research papers on resources exploitation and utilization, urbanization and regional sustainable development, urbanization and informatization, man-land relationship and regional differential, population migration and society transformation, and spatial layout and optimization of human activity.
Regional Sustainability provides a platform for researchers to explore the relationships among environment, economy and society. The journal publishes research that works towards the goal of achieving human-ecosystem equilibrium in which the exploitation of resources and the orientation of development are in harmony and do not destroy or degrade the natural environment.
Launched in 2020, the journal releases 4 issues per year, covering full-length articles/research papers, review articles, short communications, editorials and short reviews. Occasional special issues provide in-depth discussion of contemporary issues. We welcome all original, innovative, and integrative submissions that make contributions to the theories and methods related to regional sustainability.
