Two papers of Xinjiang Institute of Ecology and Geography won the first awards of the “Ninth Natural Science Outstanding Paper Award of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region”

  The Seventh Congress of Science and Technology Association of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region was ceremoniously held in Xinjiang People’s Auditoria, Professor Zhang Xiaolei, the Director of Xinjiang Branch of Chinese Academy of Sciences, was elected as the Cochairman of the association, Mr. Fu Chunli, the Secretary of Leading Party Members’ Group of Xinjiang Branch, Professor Chen Xi, the Director of Xinjiang Institute of Ecology and Geography, and Professor Wang Na, the Director of Urumqi Astronomic Station, were elected as the standing members of the association.

  The Seventh Congress of Science and Technology Association of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region was a pageant of the scientific and technological community in Xinjiang after holding the Science and Technology Congress of the autonomous region at the end of last year. The congress will consequentially play an active role in further solidifying and mobilizing the vast scientific and technological working personnel to recognize the situation, definitize and encircle the main tasks, service the overall situation, actively devote into the great practice of scientific and technological progress and innovation, and promote the social and economic development in Xinjiang. Mr. Wang Lequan, a member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of Communist Party of China and the Secretary of the Party Committee of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, and Ms. Deng Nan, the Secretary of Leading Party Members’ Group and Administrative Vice-chairwoman of China Science and Technology Association, attended the opening ceremony, and Smay Tieliward, the Vice-chairman of the autonomous region gave a report.

  The resolutions about the Working Report of Sixth Committee of the Science and Technology Association of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region and the “Detailed Rules of the Science and Technology Association of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region for Implementing the ‘Regulations of China Science and Technology Association’” were passed at the Seventh Congress of Science and Technology Association of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, and 300 awards of the Ninth Natural Science Outstanding Paper Award of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region were issued, in which the first-, second- and third-award papers were 27, 93 and 180 respectively, the research projects of “Microstructure and Initial Development of the Surface Microbiotic Crust in Desert” and “Possible Effects of Global Climate Change on Water Resources in the Tarim River Basin in Xinjiang”, applied and reported by Dr. Zhang Yuanming and Dr. Chen Yaning of Xinjiang Institute of Ecology and Geography, won the first awards separately, and 5 second and 8 third awards were won by scientists of our institute.
