Sustainable Urban Planning in China Implementing Circular Economy Principles in Small- and Medium-sized Cities Released

2026-04-28

Taylor & Francis has recently released Sustainable Urban Planning in China: Implementing Circular Economy Principles in Small- and Medium-sized Cities, a 12-chapter book co-authored by researchers from the Xinjiang Institute of Ecology and Geography, China Academy of Sciences.

The book explains the basic ideas behind the circular economy and shows how they can be applied to city design. It reviews China’s experiences in turning waste water, municipal waste and degraded soils into useful resources, offering practical steps for planners to integrate resource recovery into zoning, infrastructure and municipal services.

According to the authors, the book will help small- and medium-sized cities (SMCs) to thrive within the planetary boundaries of our shared environment. By learning from pilot projects across the country, SMCs can adopt closed-loop practices, improve resource efficiency and reduce environmental impact.
