Seminar on Environment Protection and Sustainable Development in China- Pakistan Border Area (June 11 to June 13, 2008)

The seminar was co-sponsored by the XIEG, the Forestry Department of Xinjiang, the Xinjiang Wild Animal Protection Association and the WWF-Pakistan, and UNDP-Pakistan and attended by 32 representatives from the Forestry Department of Xinjiang, Kashi Forestry Bureau, Tashkurghan Nature Reserve, County People's Government of Tashkurghan, the International Center for Integrated Mountain Development, WWF-China, SINOTRANS, WWF-Pakistan, UNDP-Pakistan and other relevant units, of which 12 were from Pakistan and 20 from Chinese.
Representatives introduced on the economic and social development of China-Pakistan Pamir region, the current situation of the biological resources and ecological environment as well as the existing regional development planning, the biodiversity conservation and sustainable development strategies of local communities and so on in the region. Meanwhile, in-depth discussions were conducted on issues of the construction and management of China-Pakistan border conservation region, China-Pakistan border eco-tourism development, collaborative research, exchange of scientists and students and so on. A viable resolution was formed, which provided specific basis and strong support for further cooperation and development.
