International Seminar on Environment, Climate Change and Sustainable Development in Arid Areas of Central Asia (June 24 to June 25, 2008)

  The seminar was chaired by the representative office in China of United Nations Development Program (UNDP), China International Economic and Technical Exchange Center of the Ministry of Commerce, Xinjiang department of Science and Technology, Science & Technology Bureau of Resources and Environment of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and the HELP Program of UNESCO and attended by more than 100 representatives, including general or vice presidents of academy of sciences, directors of the institutes, as well as scientists from China, Kazakhstan Stein, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan and Mongolia and other countries.

  The seminar aims at building a platform for academic exchanges and scholars and researchers carrying out ecological environment research in the Central Asia, and strengthening the scientific and technological exchanges and cooperation between the institute and the partners in the neighboring countries. Through this meeting, representatives conducted in-depth discussion on key issues associated with global change and proposed countermeasures for the sustainable development in the Central Asia, strengthened understanding, broadened areas of cooperation and specified the directions of future co-operation, exchange and research.
