2008 Cross-Straits Seminar for Controlling Sand Storm and Environment (September 2 to September 6, 2009)

  The seminar was co-sponsored by the Taiwan Affairs Office of State Council  and the offices of the Chinese Academy of Sciences in Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan. Nearly 100 representatives from Taiwan's Sun Yat-sen University, "Academia Sinica" of Taiwan, Institute of Atmospheric and Physics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Institute of Earth Environment of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Inner Mongolia Association for Science and Technology, Xinjiang Association for Science and Technology, Xinjiang Institute of Desert Meteorology, and other scientific research institutes, schools and businesses attended the seminar.

  The seminar extensively discussed the research results in 8 aspects, i.e. the characteristics and transmission of sand storm, characteristics of dust aerosol and its impact on the environment, climate, physical and chemical characteristics of sand storms and climate aerosols, aerosol measurement and equipment analysis, indoor and outdoor aerosol pollution, relationship of aerosol and human health, impact of aerosols on the climate and environment, as well as the control technology of aerosols. Besides carrying out special academic exchanges, the seminar also organized the representatives to visit the herbarium of our institute, the well-known enterprises in Xinjiang: Gold Wind Science and Technology, as well as scenic spots and historical sites in Xinjiang.Those exchange activities let our compatriots in Taiwan experience the economic development of the western part of the motherland, and understand the traditional culture of Xinjiang to enhance reunification of the motherland and sense of unity of Taiwan compatriots.
