Prof. XU Jianchu and Prof. Edward Visit the Key Laboratory of Chinese Academy of Sciences and Carry out Academic Exchanges

Prof. XU Jianchu and Prof. Edward visited the Key Laboratory of Biogeography and Bioresources, Chinese Academy of Sciences, and carried out academic exchanges with the researchers and students from Xinjiang Institute of Ecology and Geography on June 30, 2011. They presented the reports as “Mixed Agro-forestry Science and Global Change” and “Potential Ecological and Social Tipping Elements in the Himalaya Region”, respectively.
Prof. XU, the Professor of Kunming Institute of Botany, now is the senior scientist of World Mixed Agriculture Center and the chief representative of East Asia Office. He mainly researches on biodiversity, mountain ecosystems process and livelihoods development. Prof. Edward, the Distinguished Research Fellow of foreign experts, now is mainly engaged in the researches on the human factors and ecological management for biodiversity conservation.
Prof. XU introduced in detail about the impacts of climate change on biodiversity and different ecosystems, and the response of different species to climate change. And Prof. Edward introduced the two causes that resulting in the environment change of Himalaya region, and put forward some measures to cope with the climate change.
After the reports, Prof. XU and Prof. Edward, with the participants discussed on the cooperation domains, the applications for the project from National Natural Science Foundation of China and World Agro-forestry Center, and the cooperative researches about establishing the database of the trans-border’s biodiversity conservation.
