A Representative of Thomson Reuters Corporation Discussed the Internationalization and Digitization of the Scientific and Technological Journals in Xinjiang

On August 2, 2011, Mr. NING Bi, the business manager of Beijing Representative Office of Thomson Reuters Corporation, came to Xinjiang Institute of Ecology and Geography, Chinese Academy of Sciences, and presented a special lecture about “How to Use Web of Science and the Acceptable Content for the Web of Knowledge”. Many editors form scientific and technological journals in Xinjiang, ZHANG Qiong, the president of Xinjiang Editology Society of Science Periodicals and associate Editor-in-Chief of Xinjiang Agricultural Sciences, HE Fang, the deputy Secretary-General of Xinjiang Editology Society of Science Periodicals and associate Editor-in-Chief of Inland Earthquake, and other editors from Journal of Xinjiang Agricultural University, Environmental Protection of Xinjiang, Xinjiang Geology, Journal of Xinjiang University, Journal of Xinjiang Medical University, Journal of Arid Land, Arid Zone Research, Arid Land Geography attended the lecture.

Mr. NING introduced in detail the following aspects: 1) How to follow the developmental trend of scientific fields and optimize the strategy of soliciting contributions; 2) How to find the authoritative reviewers and choose appropriate contributors; 3) How to use multi-measurable indices to analyze own journal and other related journals; 4) Which journals are mostly like to be selected by Web of Science. Mr. NING also guided the editors how to use ISI Web of Knowledge platform to promote the quality of academic journals, and how to construct the authors’ and reviewers’ databases. Finally, the attendees discussed the development and internationalization of scientific and technological journals with Mr. NING.
