Prof. GUAN Kaiyun Returning from the Antarctic Scientific Expedition in Triumph

Prof. GUAN Kaiyun, deputy director of Xinjiang Institute of Ecology and Geography, joined an antarctic scientific expedition during the period of January 21 and February 7, 2012. The scientific expedition was held by the Network Science Committee of Chinese Academy of Sciences Herbarium and Adolescent Network Science Community—Zhile Website. This scientific expedition attracted thirty-nine middle school students from Beijing city and Xi’an city, and more than ten experts, teachers from Chinese Academy of Sciences, Capital Normal University and Beijing Youth Science and Technology Museum. Two CCTV reporters also attended the scientific expedition team and reported this activity.
The scientific expedition team investigated the Antarctic King George Island, Antarctic Peninsula, Chinese Great Wall Station on Antarctic and Chilean Antarctica Station. These members conducted the integrated observation and investigation in the aspects of climate environments, ocean resources, plants and animals, landform, geomorphy and astronomical phenomenon. In Buenos Aires and Ushuaia, the scientific expedition team also carried out investigation in their national parks, forest vegetations and climate environments.
