The 7th Xinjiang Science and Technology Conference Held

On March 27, 2012, the 7th Xinjiang Science and Technology Innovation Working and Science and Technology Progress Award Conference was held in Urumqi. The conference honored the special award winners and the first, second and third rank prize winners for science and technology progress.
ZHANG Chunxian, the communist party secretary of Xinjiang, promulgate the award certificates to the two special award winners. They are Prof. LEI Jiaqiang, deputy director of Xinjiang Institute of Ecology and Geography (XIEG), Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) and Prof. WEN Hao, chief physician, president of First Affiliated Hospital of Xinjiang Medical University.
Two scientific and technological achievements entitled “Comprehensive Treatment Technology Research and Demonstration of Typical Desert Ecosystem in Arid Land, Xinjiang” and “Root Research of Deep-rooted Plant” which accomplished by XIEG, won the second rank prize for science and technology progress.
Zhang Chunxian said that, since the implementation of the new strategy for science and technology in Xinjiang, the innovation for science and technology boosts steadily, the investment for science and technology increases greatly, and the construction of talents strengthens substantially. The progress and innovation of science and technology in Xinjiang has made remarkable achievements especially since the Central Government Working Conference on Xinjiang held. Through unremitting efforts for many years, scientists and technologists in Xinjiang create a large number of major scientific and technological achievements, which promote the rapid development of economy and society. They all made important contributions to the Xiniang’s reform and opening-up and modernization construction.
In the conference, LEI Jiaqiang presented that to realize the sustainable development of ecological environment, we should catch hold of the development opportunities of Xinjiang, strengthen the ecosystem construction and take effective methods to prevent and control sand disaster.
