A Delegation from Desert Research Institute and New Mexico State University Conduct Academic Exchange in Aksu National Field Station

During the period of July 26-28, 2012, Prof. Paul S. J. Verburg, director of Desert Research Institute, USA (DRI) and Prof. H. Curtis Monger, from New Mexico State Univrsity (NMSU), visited the Aksu National Field Scientific Observation and Research Station for Farmland Ecosystem.

Prof. Paul S. J. Verburg introduced the latest research progress, obtained by DRI, on the long-term observation in arid terrestrial ecosystem, long-term experiment of nutrient cycle, carbon fixation and emission, restoration of degraded ecosystem and the effects of climate change. Prof. H. Curtis Monger presented the research progress in the fields of the occurrence state, conversion process and controlling factors of soil carbon in USA. During the period, researchers from Aksu National Field Scientific Observation and Research Station for Farmland Ecosystem reported new research progress in the transmission and emission mechanism of soil carbon dioxide under drip irrigation with plastic mulch in oasis farmland of arid regions. Subsequently, the researchers of both sides made a discussion on the topics of water and biological controlling factors to soil inorganic carbon accumulation, transferring relationship between inorganic and organic carbon, and the rate of soil carbon fixation.　

DRI conducts cutting-edge applied research in air, land  and life, and water quality across Nevada, USA and on every continent. It has a famous long-term observation sampling sites for terrestrial ecosystems and nutrient cycle and has published many papers on Nature. This academic exchange will promote the construction of long-term observation sites in Aksu National Field Scientific Observation and Research Station for Farmland Ecosystem.
