Sino-German Training Course on Climate Change and Hydrological Model Held in Urumqi

During the period of September 4–16, 2012, the second Sino-German training course on climate change and hydrological model, funded by the Sino-German Center, was held in Urumqi. The training course was sponsored by the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research, German, National Climate Center and Xinjiang Institute of Ecology and Geography, Chinese Academy of Sciences.

The aims of this training course were to train the theory, method and operation technology of Distributed Hydrological Model, Statistical Downscaling Model and Ecological Hydrological Model. This training course attracted nearly 60 young backbone researchers, master students and doctor students from China and Germany. The training course invited 12 domestic and foreign experts as the main lecturers, including the editor-in-chief of International Hydrological Journal, academician of Polish Academy of Sciences and Prof. Zbyszek Kundzewicz, coordinating lead author of IPCC (Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change) report on climate change and water technology.

It was reported that Sino-German Center will continually fund the third training course in Potsdam next year, and the training course will become the brand project of major international cooperation program of National Natural Science Foundation of China under the Sino-German joint efforts. The implementation of this project will improve the communication and cooperation between the two countries and enhance the Chinas quantitative assessment level to climate change impacts.
