4. General Information
With the support of the Bureau of International Cooperation, CAS, “The 4th SCO National Academies Summer School - Eco-environmental Conservation and Resources Management in Arid Land under Climate Change”, will be held in Urumqi, Xinjiang from 7th July 2013 to 21st July in 2013 by Xinjiang Institute of Ecology & Geography, Chinese Academy of Sciences. Under the framework of SCO, the purpose of this summer school is to train young scientists, establish academic communication relationships with each other, and promote substantive cooperation among countries of SCO. This summer school was a nominated activity- (2013) designated by SCO.
We invite the Siberian Branch of Russian Academy of Sciences, National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Kazakhstan,Uzbekistan Academy of Sciences, National Academy of Sciences of the Kyrgyz Republic,Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Tajikistan, and Mongolian Academy of Sciences to send 4 young scientists from each side to participate in this Summer School. The working language will be English.

b. Effects of climate change on eco-hydrological processes and its characteristics
c. Impacts of climate change and regional LUCC on water resources in arid regions
d. Application of remote sensing and GIS for eco-environmental research in arid regions
e. Conservation of biodiversity and endangered species in arid regions
f. Mechanistic models of biodiversity maintenance and loss under extreme environmental and human interference stressors
g. Role of biodiversity on ecological restoration in arid regions
h. Ecological regeneration and review of environmental impact assessments in arid regions
i. Introduction of equipment for field observation
j. Methodology of collecting data and sample in the field

a. Fukang National Field Scientific Observation and Research Station for Desert Ecosystems (1 day, eco-system monitoring, Tianchi MAB)
b. Turpan Eremophytes Botanical Garden (1 day, Ex-situ conservation, plant reintroduction, regeneration)
c. Korla City (4 days, Tarim River Basin, Tarim Desert Highway, Taklimakan Station for Desert Research )
